Our Adoption Policy

Anybody wishing to adopt a dog from Wagtails Rescue will need to have a homecheck. At an agreed time a homechecker will visit your home & hopefully meet everyone in the household that will be sharing the home with the dog.

We would normally expect a home to have a garden but will consider a flat or maisonette if we feel the particular dog would be happy & sufficiently exercised. A garden must be fully enclosed by a high enough fence to stop the dog from escaping & any gates made fully secure. The homechecker will want to know how long the dog would be left at any one time & will discuss ways of settling it in.Whilst we would expect a certain standard of hygiene we are not looking for a “show home” and would prefer a dog to live in a friendly relaxed atmosphere where he will be allowed to be one of the family.

Once we are happy that the home is right you will be able to take your dog home. You will be asked to complete an adoption form & pay the required donation. It sometimes takes a while to settle a dog in but we will be available to offer you support.
